Indian English Literature

Indian English literature (IEL) refers to the body of work English writers in India. It all started in the summers of 1608 when Emperor Jahangir, in the courts of Moguls, welcomed Captain William Hawkins, Commander of British Naval Expedition Hector. It was India’s first tryst with an Englishman and English. Jahangir later allowed Britain to open a permanent port and factory on the special request of King James IV that was conveyed by his ambassador Sir Thomas Roe. English people stay there.

The native and co-native language of these writers could be one of the numerous languages of India. Indian English literature is an endeavor of showcasing the rare gems of Indian writing in English. Sacred & Inspiring Literature!

The many CONTRADICTIONS & DISCREPANCIES in the Bible do not invalidate or cancel the Kingdom! For me the Bible is the “Word of God, but not the words of God”. I am a seeker of TRUTH, not a defender of any RELIGION!  My spirit RESONATES in the Christos that Jesus became, but not with stories of God that simply make no sense today- or EVER!

The God-Father that Jesus presents to me loves ALL his CHILDREN. I simply cannot accept “as God” or even as “inspired by God” hundreds of ACTS attributed to God- acts that define his nature. My God would never be like he is depicted in Psalms 139:9 (as just one example) saying, “Happy is the one who takes your babies and smashes them against the rocks!” Happy you say?

How about SADISTIC!

What God would want to bash the brains out of BABIES who are still innocent, his own creation, because of what the parents have done. You want me to be INTIMATE with that sort of being? I am supposed to encourage people to LOVE this nature of a God? It simply was the thinking, the understanding, and the consciousness of those who lived 2,500 years ago.

So, why study the Bible you ask?

>How about because the BIBLE is the most important  book in the history of Western civilization?

>Maybe because the BIBLE helps us think about the bigger issues of life?

>Because it encourages us to work for justice, fight oppression, and insist on living in peace?

I could go on an one as to WHY we should study the bible (and live it), but NOT because it is inerrant and infallible, The Jesus I know has a good memory: let me illustrate what I am saying.

>John 13:36 Peter asks Jesus where he is going

>John 14:5 Thomas asks Jesus where he is going

>John 16:5 Jesus says, “Why have any of you asked me where I am going”?  Huh?

I am a Christian, and therefore the Bible is a sacred book for me, and my community. It is inspiring LITERATURE, but not the exact word of God: that my friend comes from WITHIN where I AM IS!   :-)
